Courtney H. Certified Sommelier, Wine & Beverage Director, Restaurant Manager

Jenner, California

As a Wine and Beverage Director, I specialize in creating unique and profitable wine and bar programs by curating selections that work with the service style, food and goals of the restaurant while making costs and driving sales. As a GM, I excel at creating and implementing systems and training staff for efficient and quality service. Restaurants that I have managed and consulted for have been included in Best New Restaurant lists (nationally) from Wine Enthusiast Magazine, Saveur and GQ, and as a Sommelier I have been featured in Art Culinaire.

I am a Certified Sommelier from the Court of Master Sommeliers and a graduate of the Advanced Wine and Beverage Program from the Culinary Institute of America.

I became fascinated with wine when I was living in New York City striving to become a journalist. I was lucky to get a gig with NBC covering the West Village, where I lived. At that time, there were a lot of wine bars opening in the neighbourhood, so I was interviewing sommeliers, discovering interesting wines and learning about things like amphorae and terroir. I saw that this was something I wanted to understand on a deeper level, so I began looking for wine courses. I came across a newly launched program at The Culinary Institute of America in the Napa Valley and applied, not really expecting to get in. Well, I did! So I packed up and moved to northern California and I’ve never looked back. Over the past ten years, I have worked multiple harvests in viti- and viniculture,  managed wine programs and restaurants for Michelin-star chefs, traveled all over Europe and written for some of the best wine publications in the country. I was even recruited to manage a restaurant on the West Coast of Norway!

I love hospitality, making guests and staff happy and the satisfaction that comes from making a business profitable and successful.
